A Budensome Stone | Gathering Together Against Jerusalem

Gaza
There is a broad based movement to punish Israel for defending itself against rocket fire from Gaza last summer. As usual, Hamas has declared the war to be a victory and this is turning out to not be as unrealistic as it sounds. The destruction caused by the war is being used very effectively to solidify opposition against Israel. For those with antisemitic tendencies it is being use as an excuse to publicly validate their hatred of Jews. The war also managed to help Fatah and Hamas to set aside their differences and form a unity government. This time they swear "the division is over".

Sweden has recently become the first member of the European Union to recognize the state of Palestine. On the eve of the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), the most sacred day of the Jewish calendar, Sweden's new prime minister, Stefan Loefven, announced that Sweden will be the first major European country to recognize the 'State of Palestine.' And it appears that Sweden is not going to be alone in the EU in their punishment of Israel. The EU is preparing to economically and culturally isolate Israel with a series of sanctions. They are tired of the negotiations and simply wish to force Israel into a draconian settlement that will leave Israel indefensible.

On top of all this, on October 12 their will be a meeting in Cairo to discuss the rebuilding of Gaza. There will be about fifty delegations attending the conference. Among those attending will be the general secretary of the UN, Ban Ki-moon and the chief of the Arab league, Nabil el-Arabi. Also, U.S. secretary of state John Kerry will attend as will the foreign ministers of France, Italy, Japan and Jordan. I believe that you can expect a lot of public bashing of Israel as well as a lot of private plotting.

The prophet Zechariah wrote;
The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him. Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.  Zechariah 12:1-3

The nations of the world have been turning against Israel for many years. It now appears that the process of gathering together against Jerusalem is beginning.

Egypt to co-host ‘Gaza reconstruction’ conference

Representatives of international organisations, ministers of various countries, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas are due to attend an international conference on Palestine co-hosted by the Egypt and Norway in Cairo on 12 October, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially announced on Friday.

The international conference is to specifically address “the reconstruction of Gaza” and aims to “strengthen the United Nations’ list of import and export of goods and materials into and out of the Gaza Strip,” the ministry statement said.

The Palestinian unity government will coordinate with the international community to address the needs of private sector projects.

The conference is also set to discuss the removal of restrictions and provide more access to private sector goods.

It is also due to “provide financial support for the reconstruction of the sector” over the next five years, the statement continued.

The conference will be under the chairmanship of the secretary generals of the United Nations and the Arab League.

A representative from the European Union, the US secretary of state, and ministers of foreign affairs from Japan, France, Italy, and Jordan are all due to attend the conference.

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conference aims to “improve the prospects for a political solution to the conflict by strengthening the Palestinian government’s ability to shoulder its responsibility on the rehabilitation of the Gaza Strip.”
