King Juan Carlos meets with Saudi Crown Prince Salman

The peace talks sponsored by the Obama administration may have failed, but that doesn't mean that there is no talk of peace and security. According to Israel National News, the unity government of Fatah and Hamas is set to renounce terror, recognize Israel and quit trying to join international organizations as a state. There are still a lot of details to be worked out.

Russia is ready to resume its activities in the Quartet. The Quartet is a  group made up of the US, the EU, Russia and the UN that was formed to promote peace between Israel and Palestine. Russia says this despite the recent tension between Russia and the US/EU over the Ukraine. Also, Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, met with Hassan Rouhani, the president of Iran in Shanghai on May 21. They agreed that their friendly relationship contributed to peace and stability in the Caspian region.

And the King of Spain, Juan Carlos, met with the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) recently and and they agreed to "fortify global peace". Is that anything like confirming a covenant? The king must have been in peace and security mood because he then traveled to Saudi Arabia where he was present for the signing of a security agreement between Spain and Saudi Arabia.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

OIC, Spanish King agree to fortify global peace

Monday, May 19, 2014 - Islamabad—King of Spain Juan Carlos on Sunday visited the OIC headquarters in Jeddah/Saudi Arabia to a warm reception by Secretary General of OIC Mr Iyad Ameen Madani, says an emailed message. King Carlos is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia these days.

Both sides discussed recent developments in both regional and international arena and explored ways and means for increased dialogue and potential cooperation about the matters of common interest, expressed their readiness for enhancement of relations at various levels.

They also underlined the importance of promotion of tolerance, intercultural and interfaith dialogue.

The OIC Secretary General used the occasion to intimate the King of the current activities of the OIC on peace-building and socio-economic cooperation, including issues relating to education, science and technology and innovation.
